After what felt like the longest winter ever, summer is now flying by. Most of it has been rainy so far, but still, where has it gone!
Matt’s mom has been recovering from back surgery. It’s slow going, but she’s making progress. Next up for some hospital fun is my dad for a new ankle probably this winter and maybe Matt’s dad for a back surgery he’s been putting off. Or maybe my mom to take out a bone from her currently broken little toe. 2009 had everyone in the hospital for cancer, thankfully all are healthy and doing well now. 2010 is shaping up as the year to carve up body parts.
We are being lazy with home improvement projects this year with the biggest one being re-staining the deck. The deck looks amazing now, but the trim around the doors is still waiting for a dry day and some motivation to be sanded and painted. I’d like to get the front door painted and maybe a storm door added to the front and back doors too. I’d also love to find/have made a screen door for the back slider and my kitchen windows. And if I was really lucky we’d install a new ceiling fan for the front room to replace the one that’s been broken for 2 years. Matt says I have too many demands. Or at least too many that would involve his help. So looks like the only other thing that will be done this summer is finally painting the laundry room and our bedroom, because I can do that mostly by myself. Matt was fired from all painting duties when he used a wet brush to cut in the walls at the townhouse. I still think he did that on purpose.
We finally purchased a king size mattress. It’s a memory foam/spring hybrid and is completely decadent to sleep on. We now have room for every one to sleep sprawled out, everyone being myself, Matt, Oscar, Tito, Pandora and Dudley. A very full bed! Now we have two guest rooms, one with a twin and the other with a queen. The extra beds will be nice for the houseful of drunk people needing a place to crash we always seem to have when Bryan is home.
Animals are doing good in our house. Oscar had to have a minor surgery to remove a growth on his leg. He’s almost a healthy weight now too at 30lbs. Tito has settled into a routine and is potty trained if you remember to let him out. If not, he will ninja poop in the hall. Luckily he has held his bladder pretty much from 3 months on. He’s not super good with potty signals other than whining, but he also whines for attention or to get Pandora to play, so it’s sometimes hard to tell. Matt’s brother and dad added new puppies to their families. Stryker a chocolate lab and Truman a cocker spaniel. Both very cute boys.
Matt became a little nervous for our Jamaica trip this fall due to the Jamaican Drug Lord gun fight that took over parts of the country. Thankfully he turned himself in, so hopefully all will be well again by the time our flight takes off. We are both very much looking forward to a tropical vacation.
We had our dads and their wives over for a Father’s Day BBQ. Always a fun time. Everyone agreed we need to pick a weekend (where it’s not going to rain) and go camping. Unfortunately our summer has filled up with birthday parties, bachelor parties, weddings and Matt’s on call and work conference schedule.
And the last bit of news for now. My company has decided to dissolve the division I work for. Basically profitable or useful departments are being absorbed by other areas of the company and the ones that are no longer needed are being let go. The shocking news was told to us over a company wide conference call on Wednesday. I don’t have a lot more information at this point as a lot of decisions are still left to be finalized. A lot of people will be losing their jobs in the coming months, something like 3,800 people. I am pretty sure I will be one of them, but have no idea if I have 1 month or 12 months before that will happen. Matt refuses to let me be a stay at home wife, even though I’d be so good at it! So I’m brushing up on my resume and interview skills! Ugh… some stressful and very sad months ahead.
